Inside the Showroom: Isabella’s Internship Experience at Mazon Interiors

Stepping into the world of interior design, I always knew I had a passion for art, color, and how our surroundings shape the way we feel. But seeing how that passion translates into the day-to-day life of a design company was a whole new experience.
Over three eye-opening days, I had the opportunity to intern with the team at Mazon Interiors. Here is a look behind the scenes of what I learned, from initial concepts to working with real client spaces.
Day 1: Understanding the Elements of Design
My journey began at the Birmingham showroom with Joanne, where I was introduced to the wider team and learned how many different roles come together to execute a space.
Flooring & Client Needs: I spent time with George, who supports the flooring side of the business. He showed me through different wood finishes and took me through how he listens to a client’s exact preferences. I even got to help him match samples for a customer's specific vision!
Problem-Solving in Real Time: Shadowing Joanne showed me the reality of project coordination. From tracking down incoming deliveries to navigating everyday design hurdles, I saw how crucial quick thinking and problem-solving are in this industry.
Function First: Chatting with the rest of the team revealed how modern tools, including AI, help speed up initial design phases so the team can focus heavily on functionality, a huge takeaway for me, as I realised function is just as essential as aesthetics.
Day 2: Mood Boards, Marketing, and Site Visits
On day two, I headed to the Leamington Spa showroom, a calm space thoughtfully designed with beautiful materials, clean lines, and an inviting outdoor kitchen and garden area.
Creative Direction: I was tasked with creating a botanical-inspired mood board. Having always enjoyed playing with textures and colors at home, bringing a fresh design concept together in the showroom was a real highlight.
Building the Brand: I sat down with Stephanie to chat about marketing and brand awareness. She gave me fantastic advice on building a professional image via LinkedIn and social media, explaining how Mazon Interiors communicates its core message: making home renovation as simple as possible for clients.
On-Site Collaboration: Later, I joined Joanne and Stephanie on a live site visit. Watching the team communicate on-site helped me understand the immense time and detail required to take a project from planning to completion, and how rewarding the final reveal is.
Day 3: 3D Renderings & Hosting at Leamington Spa
My final day focused on how Mazon Interiors brings concepts to life for clients, followed by an evening event.
Visualising the Detail: Joanne walked me through the 3D rendering process, showing how custom furniture and spatial layouts are visualised. Clear visual communication ensures both the client and the design team are aligned every step of the way.
Industry Networking: That evening, the Mazon Interiors showroom transformed into an event space to host an industry networking session. As an introverted person, stepping into a room full of interior designers, architects, and property professionals was a great opportunity to build confidence and see how the showroom naturally supports meaningful connection.
Final Touches: To wrap up the day, I helped Stephanie select photos from the event for social media before saying my goodbyes.
